A Lithuanian Winner in an International Children's Map-Making Competition
Pijus Jokubaitis, 15 years old: "Virtual Reality," winner of the 2021 ICA "Creativity" award
The Barbara Petchenik Children’s Map Competition was created by the International Cartographic Association in 1993 as a memorial for a past Vice-President of the ICA and cartographer who had a lifelong interest in maps for children. The aim of the contest is to promote the creative representation of the world in graphic form by children.
In December 13-17, 2021 178 children’s drawings on the theme "My Future World" from 32 member countries -- including Lithuania -- were displayed in four categories at the Italian Geographic Military Institute in Florence: http://www.observo360.com/icadrawingexhibition/ An international jury organized by José Jesús Reyes Nunez (Hungary), Vice-chair of the ICA Commission on Cartography and Children, selected 12 awards in four age categories: Under 6, 6 - 8, 9 - 12, and 13 - 15. In addition, a creativity award and a public award were selected. Here are the submissions to the international competition by country and by age group: https://vanderkrogt.net/petchenik/

Know residents of Lithuania with children who'll be under 16 in 2023 who might want to submit a map for the next competition by the LKD? Here's the LKD page and contact information: https://www.geoportal.lt/geoportal/web/mokslo-populiarinimas/vaiku-piesiniu-konkursas
